ABOUT THE AUTHOR

​

Dr. E. Anthony Allen, MB, BS, MDiv, MRC Psych, DM (Psych), is a Psychiatrist and Consultant in Whole Person Wellness and Church-based Health Ministries. He completed his medical training at the University of the West Indies over 40 years ago, pursued graduate training in Psychiatry at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in the UK, and earned a Master of Divinity from Yale University.

Dr. Allen served for 24 years as a part-time lecturer and hospital consultant at the University of the West Indies, where he developed a teaching program in psychotherapy and counseling for residents and medical students. Additionally, he established counseling programs and psychiatric services for UWI students and staff at the Mona campus Health Centre.

​

As a consultant in Church-based Health Ministries, Dr. Allen has been a pioneer in community-based Whole Person Health Ministries within local congregations. He co-founded the Wholistic Counselling and Healing Ministry of Bethel Baptist Church and the Jamaica Baptist Union. His contributions extend to serving on the Christian Medical Commission of the World Council of Churches and undertaking assignments for World Vision International.

Dr. Allen has delivered speaking engagements in over thirty countries and is the author of Caring for the Whole Person and Simple Steps to Wellness. Since 1981, he has been in full-time private practice, working with patients, medical professionals, churches, and the public to promote a whole-person approach to wellness and empowerment.

Dr. Allen envisions a future where "we each can be our brother’s and sister’s keeper for wellness."
